WWE WRESTLEMANIA 41 LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE
Higher! Higher! Feel the blaze! She burns at the stake like a sorceress, but as for me? I’m here to live blog this pro wrestling spectacle for you all.
Typically, I don’t live blog the details of the preshow, but they presented a vignette for a AAA/NXT Worlds Collide event in June and then announced that WWE acquired AAA *and* used it to segue into Rey Mysterio’s announcement that he’s not cleared and will be substituted by Rey Fenix in his match against El Grande Americano tonight, so there you have it.
Later, there’s additional news about Bayley getting mysteriously hurt backstage by apparently not Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, with Adam Pearce informing both that they won’t escape a title match tomorrow night so easily.
The principal show begins with the customary montage of talent arriving at the venue.
We then view a video narrated by Triple H focusing on heroes, villains, and legendary tales.
Triple H is present in the ring, microphone in hand.
He expresses it’s his privilege to greet us in Las Vegas, where for the very first time, right here and right now (Van Halen is rocking out in America?), everyone attending is being broadcast LIVE to the entire planet. He proceeds to welcome us to WrestleMania, accompanied by a blast of pyrotechnics.
GUNTHER (c) vs. “Main Event” Jey Uso (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)
Moving cautiously, absorbing the ambiance, collar and elbow tie-up into the corner, GUNTHER delivers a right hand but Uso retaliates with a MONSTROUS right that knocks the Ring General down to the mat and forces him out to the floor! Back inside, exchanging strikes, Jey gains the upper hand and GUNTHER retreats to the floor for a breather.
Back in the ring, another exchange occurs, and the Ring General chops Uso powerfully off the top and onto the floor, posing as if he’s victorious as referee Shaun Bennett counts. Jey makes the count and GUNTHER takes his time, slowly strolling and chopping him into the corner, each chop causing more damage… BUT USO EXPLODES WITH A SPEAR FOR TWO!
Powerful rights in the corner, forcing GUNTHER to protect himself, but when the Ring General lands one chop, it’s a noticeable chop-a-doodle-doo! Uso rises back up and reclaims control, climbing back to the top, GUNTHER ascends to join him, but the superplex sends Uso flying, and the huge shotgun dropkick follows! Tenryu Powerbomb… JEY USO WON’T STAY DOWN!
Another spear, Jey climbs back up top, diving splash, deep hook of the leg… GUNTHER KICKS OUT! Out and back in, the Ring General executes a diving splash of his own, but only for two, and he locks in the Gojira Clutch! Jey endures, taking hard knees in the corner, a chop sends Uso crashing to the apron!
Back inside, back on his feet, Jey asks him for more; GUNTHER lands another chop and Uso laughs it off even as he sinks to his knees! Wrist control, exchanging elbows in the centre of the ring, trading lariats, neither man yields, the Ring General sends him into the ropes with a boot, and Jey retaliates with a lariat that takes the champion down!
Gojira Clutch countered into a German suplex, both participants take a moment to recover, Uso charges into the dropkick but slips out of the Tenryu Powerbomb and executes a release powerbomb of his own! A superkick forces the champion onto his knees, followed by another superkick, a spear, and Jey ascends the top rope, successfully landing the diving splash!
Back up top, another splash, once more back up top, a Shadows Over Hell splash to the back! Jey applies the Gojira Clutch… IS IT OVER?!
Jey Uso secures victory by submission with the Gojira Clutch, becoming the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Following the match, “Big” Jim Uso enters the ring and the Usos share an extensive celebration together, in the ring and throughout the audience.
Rick Rubin, Criss Angel, and a football player struggling with some sort of bowel obstruction (it suggests he has a tight end?) are spotted in the audience.
