WWE WRESTLEMANIA 41 LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE
Higher! Higher! Feel the blaze! She burns at the stake like a sorceress, but me? I’m just here to live blog this wrestling event for you, folks.
Usually, I don’t live blog the details of the preshow, but they featured a vignette for AAA/NXT Worlds Collide in June and then followed it by announcing that WWE acquired AAA *and* utilized it to segue into Rey Mysterio’s announcement that he isn’t cleared and will be replaced by Rey Fenix in his contest against El Grande Americano tonight, so there you have it.
Later, there’s also a segment about Bayley sustaining a mysterious injury backstage thanks to definitely not Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, with Adam Pearce informing the two that they won’t easily escape a title match tomorrow evening.
The main event commences with the standard montage of performers arriving at the arena.
Then, we are shown a video narrated by Triple H discussing heroes and villains and iconic tales.
Triple H stands in the ring, microphone in hand.
He states that it’s his privilege to welcome us to Las Vegas, where for the first time ever, right here, right now (is Van Halen rocking America?), everyone in attendance is being viewed LIVE by the entire world. He subsequently welcomes us to WrestleMania and a barrage of pyro erupts.
GUNTHER (c) vs. “Main Event” Jey Uso (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)
Circling, taking it slowly, soaking in the ambiance, collar and elbow into the corner, GUNTHER lands a right hand, but Uso counters with a HUGE right that sends the Ring General crashing onto his back and scrambling out to the floor! Back inside, exchanging strikes, Jey gains the upper hand again, forcing GUNTHER to retreat to the floor for a breather.
Back inside, the athletes are exchanging blows, and the Ring General chops Uso off the top and down to the floor, posing as if he’s victorious while referee Shaun Bennett counts. Jey beats the count, and GUNTHER takes his time, methodically chopping him into the corner, each chop crushing him harder… BUT USO EXPLODES WITH A SPEAR FOR TWO!
Right hands in the corner, compelling GUNTHER to cover up, but once the Ring General delivers one chop, it’s a fantastic chop! Uso regains control, back to the top, GUNTHER ascends to meet him, superplex sends Uso flying, and a massive shotgun dropkick follows! Tenryu Powerbomb… JEY USO WON’T STAY DOWN!
Another spear, Jey returns to the top, diving splash, deeply hooking the leg… GUNTHER KICKS OUT! In and out, the Ring General executes a diving splash of his own, only to score two, and locks in the Gojira Clutch! Jey perseveres, ramming knees in the corner, and a chop sends Uso crashing to the apron!
Back inside, back on his feet, Jey asks for more, GUNTHER lands a chop and Uso shrugs it off even as he crumbles to his knees! Wrapping the wrist, trading elbows in the middle of the ring, exchanging lariats, neither man yields an inch, the Ring General knocks him into the ropes with a boot, and Jey explodes off with a lariat that takes the champion off his feet!
Gojira Clutch countered into a German suplex, both competitors take a moment to recuperate, Uso hits the dropkick but escapes the Tenryu Powerbomb and executes a release powerbomb of his own! A superkick brings the champion to his knees, followed by another superkick, a spear, and Jey heads up top while the diving splash hits!
Back up top, yet another splash, again climbing up top, a Shadows Over Hell splash to the back! Jey locks him in his own Gojira Clutch… IS IT OVER?!
Jey Uso submits GUNTHER using the Gojira Clutch, becoming the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
After the match, “Big” Jim Uso enters the ring, and the Usos have a lengthy celebration together, in the ring and moving through the crowd.
Rick Rubin, Criss Angel, and a football player with some form of bowel condition (it indicates he’s got a tight end?) are visible in the audience.
New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) vs. War Raiders (Erik & Ivar) (c) (WWE World Tag Team Championship)
Erik and Kingston start, Woods attempts to assist his friend, and Erik simply hurls Kofi into him! Tag to Ivar, and Erik slams him off the apron and into the New Day on the outside! Warbeard follows with a freight train crossbody taking both of them against the ring skirts, back inside, tossing slam / diving splash combo but Xavier kicks out!
New Day traps Erik on the apron, delivering a Shadows Over Hell style senton, cover for two! Kingston bombarding punches to the viking’s injured neck, stomps, Fameasser gets two, positioning him on the apron for a knee, tag to Woods. Double stomp off the top, cover for two, X with a little strut, Erik fights back valiantly with chops!
Escape, tag to Ivar, running hot, a massive cartwheel lariat, underhooks, Kingston slips out and scores with a crescent kick! Double whip, Warbeard counters with a handspring double back elbow! Xavier interrupts, landing a big lariat, tag to Kofi, hammering away at the big man, Kingston keeps him in position, but Erik comes over and clobbers Woods out of the air!
Kofi drives him away with a tijeras and Trouble in Paradise, moving to the apron and up top, flips over, roll through, Ivar takes him down with a reverse roundhouse kick! Big moonsault from the giant, and Xavier counters with a Limit Breaker! Erik strikes him with a knee to the spine, the running knee to the face, Ivar enters, lifting Xavier up but Kofi makes the save!
Back and forth, Kofi trips Ivar
up, double stomp, Woods executing a lateral press while Kingston restrains the massive viking
New Day secures victory by pinfall with a lateral press from Xavier Woods on Ivar, aided by Kofi Kingston, to become the new WWE World Tag Team Champions.
Various celebrities are spotted in the front row.
Jade Cargill vs. Naomi
Cargill initiates with vigorous punches, hurling Naomi across the ring for shoulder blocks in the opposite corner! Chokebomb lift, launching her into the corner; Naomi escapes and ascends the top, only for Jade to military press slam her back down! On the floor, Naomi delivers elbows, but the whip is reversed and she crashes heavily into the barricade!
Jade tosses her back inside, Naomi rolls out the other corner and rakes Cargill’s eyes! A roundhouse kick rocks her, hanging X-Factor sends her tumbling to the floor! Naomi energized, takes a victory lap in the ring, counting with referee Ryan Tran before sending Jade back down to the floor with a dropkick, pursuing her this time.
Smashing Cargill’s face against the steel steps, diving blockbuster off the steps! Back in the ring, Naomi delivers mounted punches, battering Jade before lifting her for a knee strike to the face! Dropping a leg across her throat, she goes for a cover for two! Jade recuperating, kicks into the corner, Stinger Splash, whip reversed; Naomi counters with a boot to the charge, but a diving blockbuster attempt is countered and Cargill delivers a Jackhammer… SO CLOSE!
Another dive captured, this time into a fallaway slam, and Jade kips up to take a bow for the audience! Enormous step, heading to the top, Naomi lands a roundhouse kick, positions herself… AVALANCHE LA CASADORA BULLDOG! SPLIT-LEGGED MOONSAULT CAN’T KEEP JADE CARGILL DOWN! Naomi delivers kicks, Jade catches one, Naomi executes a roll through, victory roll pin for two, and transitions into a Rings of Saturn neck crank in the center of the ring!
Cargill rises to her feet, Naomi escapes, Jade dodges a kick, electric chair… ELECTRIC CHAIR POWERBOMB! Double chickenwing…
Jade Cargill claims victory by pinfall with Jaded.
We witness another round of celebrity appearances in the audience.
