Star WR Chooses to Stay at Jackson State After Exploring Transfer Options

In a surprising development, All-SWAC wide receiver Nathan Rembert has declared that he will continue with Jackson State.

This change occurred only a few days after he announced on social media his desire to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Rembert, who joined Jackson State in January following an impressive season at Mississippi Valley State, initially indicated over the weekend that he intended to depart from the Tigers.

However, on Monday afternoon, he changed his mind, writing on social media: “I will not be entering the transfer portal.”

The sophomore wide receiver’s change of heart comes after a standout 2023 season during which he achieved 70 receptions for 1,038 yards and four touchdowns for the Delta Devils. His knack for coming through in critical situations was evident during Mississippi Valley State’s unexpected victory over Florida A&M, where Rembert recorded seven catches for 130 yards and a touchdown.

Prior to his time at Mississippi Valley State, Rembert shone at Edward Waters University, earning All-SIAC First Team honors with 85 receptions for 730 yards and eight touchdowns.

Rembert’s decision to return is a positive outcome for head coach T.C. Taylor and the Tigers, who concluded the 2024 season with an impressive 12-2 record, including a flawless 8-0 in SWAC competition.

Jackson State ended its season with a decisive victory over Southern University in the SWAC Championship and followed it with a dominant win against South Carolina State in the Cricket Celebration Bowl.

With Rembert opting to stay, Jackson State maintains a potent asset for an offense that averaged nearly 190 passing yards per game and totaled 27 passing touchdowns last season. His continued presence bolsters the Tigers’ quest to defend their HBCU National Champions title.
