Alignment technology on golf balls has made huge advances in recent years and now Titleist have introduced Soft AIM 360 on two of their offerings, the AVX and Tour Soft.

AIM stands for Alignment Integrated Marking and these are the first balls from the No.1 manufacturer to feature a full 360-degree marking. For comparison, their premium balls – the Pro V1, Pro V1x and Pro V1x Left Dash models – have an extended alignment side stamp that is 65 per cent longer than the 2025 Pro V1 side stamp.

Why have Titleist done it?

Alignment features were added to the Pro V1 side stamp for the first time in 2007 after feedback from tour players who were doing it for themselves. Since then each version has had a different marking to help with the golfer’s alignment off the tee and on the greens.

In recent years other brands have focused more on visual alignment aids and Titleist’s R&D team conducted a controlled test to measure precision between three markings – AIM 360, Enhanced Alignment and the standard Pro V1 side stamp – and the proximity to the hole was measured through a variety of angles.

The results showed that both AIM products improved precision in alignment by up to 35 percent compared to the standard Pro V1 side stamp. So it might well be that we’ll see a different looking Pro V1 in the near future.

What do Titleist say?

“The 360-degree marking on the golf ball gives players a very different look than Enhanced Alignment. It’s designed for players who prefer a larger alignment feature than our other golf balls with AIM Technology. When we started the design process, we wanted to make sure we created designs that both resonated with golfers but also offered a real performance benefit. The R&D test results were extremely validating in showing that these products offer a distinct performance advantage in precision alignment; they’re not just decorations.”

What about the balls?

The Titleist AVX balls are designed for players seeking a low-flying and low-spinning ball with very soft feel and excellent greenside control. The latest generation AVX was re-engineered from core to cover to deliver longer distance from tee to green, more greenside spin and control, and an even softer feel.

The Titleist Tour Soft balls are designed for players who prioritise soft feel without sacrificing all-around performance throughout the bag. Compared to the prior generation, the latest generation Tour Soft model features faster core technology and a reformulated cover system.

Tour Soft AIM 360 – £34 per dozen

The Titleist AVX and Tour Soft AIM 360 balls are now available online and in UK and Ireland golf shops.
