WWE WRESTLEMANIA 41 LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE
Higher! Higher! Feel the flame! She burns at the stake like a witch, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling event for you, folks.
Typically, I don’t liveblog every detail of the preshow but they aired a vignette for a AAA/NXT Worlds Collide in June and then followed it up by announcing that WWE acquired AAA *and* used it to segue into Rey Mysterio announcing that he’s not cleared and will be substituted by Rey Fenix in his match against El Grande Americano tonight, so there you have it.
Later on, there’s also a segment about Bayley mysteriously getting injured backstage by definitely not Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, with Adam Pearce informing both of them that they won’t be escaping a title match tomorrow night that easily.
The primary show begins with the customary montage of talent arriving at the arena.
Next, we see a video narrated by Triple H discussing heroes and villains along with legendary tales.
Triple H is in the ring, microphone in hand.
He expresses his honor to welcome us to Las Vegas, where for the very first time, right here, right now (Van Halen is rocking America?), everyone present is being seen LIVE by the whole globe. He then extends a welcome to WrestleMania and a flurry of pyro goes off.
GUNTHER (c) vs. “Main Event” Jey Uso (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)
Circling, taking it slow, soaking in the ambiance, collar and elbow into the corner, GUNTHER throws a right hand, but Uso counters with a MASSIVE right that sends the Ring General crashing to the mat and scrambling out to the floor! Back inside, they trade strikes, with Jey getting the upper hand in the exchange, forcing GUNTHER to escape to the floor for a moment to rest.
Back inside, another exchange occurs, and the Ring General chops Uso clean off the top and to the floor while posing as if he’s won as referee Shaun Bennett counts. Jey beats the count and GUNTHER takes his time, slowly walking and chopping him into the corner, each chop crumpling him further… BUT USO EXPLODES WITH A SPEAR FOR TWO!
Right hands in the corner, compelling GUNTHER to cover up, but when the Ring General gets a chop in, it’s a real chop-a-doodle-doo splendid! Uso rises back up and regains control of the situation, back up top, GUNTHER climbs to meet him, a superplex sends Uso soaring and the big shotgun dropkick follows! Tenryu Powerbomb… JEY USO WON’T STAY DOWN!
Another spear, Jey ascends back to the top, diving splash, deep hook of the leg… GUNTHER KICKS OUT! Out and back in, the Ring General delivers a diving splash of his own, but just a two count as he traps the Gojira Clutch in! Jey endures, hard knees ramming in the corner, a chop sends Uso clean out to the apron!
Back inside, back on his feet, Jey asks for more, GUNTHER lands a chop and Uso laughs it off even while crumbling to his knees! Wrist control, trading elbows in the center of the ring, exchanging lariats, no man yields an inch, the Ring General pushes him into the ropes with a boot and Jey surges off with a lariat that knocks the champion off his feet!
Gojira Clutch countered into a German suplex, both competitors take a breather, Uso rushes into the dropkick but escapes the Tenryu Powerbomb and counters with a release powerbomb of his own! A superkick brings the champion to his knees, another superkick, a spear and Jey climbs to the top, delivering the diving splash!
Back up top, another splash, then back up top again for a Shadows Over Hell splash to the back! Jey puts him in his own Gojira Clutch… IS IT OVER?!
Jey Uso wins by submission with the Gojira Clutch, becoming your new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Post-match, “Big” Jim Uso enters the ring, and the Usos enjoy a lengthy celebration together, in the ring and out among the crowd.
Rick Rubin, Criss Angel, and a football figure with some kind of bowel obstruction (it notes he’s got a tight end?) are visible in the audience.
