WWE WRESTLEMANIA 41 LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE

Higher! Higher! Feel the blaze! She burns at the stake like a sorceress, but me? I’m just here to live blog this professional wrestling event for all of you.

Typically, I don’t live blog the happenings of the preshow, but they aired a vignette for a AAA/NXT Worlds Collide in June and then followed it up by announcing that WWE acquired AAA *and* used it to transition to Rey Mysterio revealing that he’s not cleared and will be substituted by Rey Fenix in his match against El Grande Americano tonight, so that’s the update.

Later on, there’s also news about Bayley sustaining a mysterious injury backstage, allegedly at the hands of definitely not Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, with Adam Pearce informing the two that they won’t escape a title match tomorrow night without consequences.

The main event commences with the customary montage of talent arriving at the venue.

Next up, we have a video narrated by Triple H discussing heroes, villains, and legendary narratives.

Triple H stands in the ring, microphone in hand.

He expresses it’s his privilege to welcome us to Las Vegas, where for the first time ever, right here, right now (is Van Halen rocking hard in America?), everyone present is being viewed LIVE by the entire world. He then officially welcomes us to WrestleMania, accompanied by an explosion of pyro.

GUNTHER (c) vs. “Main Event” Jey Uso (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

Circling, taking it slowly, soaking in the ambiance, collar and elbow tie-up into the corner, GUNTHER with a right hand but Uso retaliates with a MONSTER right that knocks the Ring General onto his backside, sending him scrambling to the outside! Back inside, they exchange strikes, Jey gains the upper hand and GUNTHER retreats outside for a moment of respite.

Back in the ring, another encounter and the Ring General knocks Uso clean off the top and to the floor, posing as if he’s triumphed while referee Shaun Bennett counts. Jey beats the count, and GUNTHER takes his time, methodically chopping him into the corner, with each chop crumbling him a little more… BUT USO EXPLODES WITH A SPEAR FOR TWO!

Right hands in the corner force GUNTHER to protect himself, but when the Ring General manages a chop, it’s a spectacular chop to behold! Uso rises and regains control of the bout, climbing back to the top, while GUNTHER ascends to challenge him, a superplex launches Uso and a massive shotgun dropkick follows! Tenryu Powerbomb… JEY USO WON’T STAY DOWN!

Another spear, Jey back up top, diving splash, deep hook of the leg… GUNTHER KICKS OUT! Out and back in, the Ring General performs a diving splash of his own, only for a count of two, and he locks in the Gojira Clutch! Jey endures, delivering hard knees into the corner, a chop sends Uso tumbling out to the apron!

Returning inside, back on his feet, Jey beckons for more, GUNTHER delivers a chop and Uso laughs it off even as he drops to his knees! Wrist control, trading elbows in the center of the ring, exchanging lariats, neither competitor gives way, the Ring General forces him into the ropes with a boot and Jey erupts off with a lariat that sends the champion crashing down!

Gojira Clutch countered into a German suplex, both combatants take a moment to recuperate, Uso charges into the dropkick but escapes the Tenryu Powerbomb and counters with a release powerbomb of his own! A superkick sends the champion to his knees, another superkick, a spear, and Jey ascends for a diving splash that connects!

Back atop, another splash, yet again back on top, a Shadows Over Hell splash to the back! Jey traps him in his own Gojira Clutch… IS IT OVER?!

Jey Uso wins by submission with the Gojira Clutch, earning the title of your new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

After the match, “Big” Jim Uso enters the ring, and the Usos engage in a long celebration together, both in the ring and throughout the audience.

Rick Rubin, Criss Angel, and a football player experiencing some sort of bowel obstruction (it states he’s got a tight end?) are spotted in the crowd.

New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) vs. War Raiders (Erik & Ivar) (c) (WWE World Tag Team Championship)
