WWE WRESTLEMANIA 41 LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE
Higher! Higher! Feel the passion! She burns at the stake like a sorceress, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this wrestling spectacle for you all.
Typically, I don’t cover the nuances of the preshow live, but they aired a vignette for the AAA/NXT Worlds Collide event in June, followed by the announcement of WWE acquiring AAA *and* transitioning to Rey Mysterio’s declaration that he’s not cleared to compete, resulting in Rey Fenix stepping in to replace him against El Grande Americano tonight, so there you have it.
Later on, there’s also a mention of Bayley mysteriously sustaining an injury backstage, allegedly caused by not Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, with Adam Pearce informing them that they won’t escape a title match tomorrow night so easily.
The main event begins with the classic montage of superstars arriving at the venue.
Next, we see a video narrated by Triple H discussing heroes, villains, and legendary tales.
Triple H stands in the ring, microphone in hand.
He expresses it’s his privilege to welcome us to Las Vegas, where for the first time ever, live, right here, right now (Is Van Halen rocking out in America?), everyone present is being viewed LIVE by the entire world. He officially greets us to WrestleMania, followed by an explosive pyrotechnic display.
GUNTHER (c) vs. “Main Event” Jey Uso (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)
Circling the ring, taking it slowly, absorbing the ambiance, collar and elbow into the corner, GUNTHER lands a right hand, but Uso counters with a POWERFUL right that sends the Ring General crashing down to the mat and scrambling outside!
Inside the ring, after trading strikes, Jey comes out on top in the exchange, forcing GUNTHER to bail outside for a moment of respite.
Once back in the ring, in another exchange, the Ring General chops Uso off his feet and onto the floor, posing as if he’s victorious while referee Shaun Bennett counts. Jey manages to return before the count ends and GUNTHER takes his time, methodically working over him with chops in the corner, each strike flattening him a little more… BUT USO BURSTS WITH A SPEAR FOR A TWO-COUNT!
Throwing rights in the corner, GUNTHER is forced to protect himself, but when the Ring General delivers one chop, it’s a brutal chop-a-doodle-doo! Uso gets back up and regains control, heading back to the top, while GUNTHER follows, but the superplex sends Uso flying, and a massive shotgun dropkick follows! Tenryu Powerbomb… JEY USO REFUSES TO STAY DOWN!
Another spear, Jey returns to the top, diving splash, deep hook of the leg… GUNTHER KICKS OUT! Out and back in, the Ring General makes his own diving splash, yet only gets a two count, before locking in the Gojira Clutch! Jey fights through, delivering hard knees in the corner, and a chop sends Uso sprawling out to the apron!
Back inside, standing tall again, Jey challenges him for more, GUNTHER connects with a chop, and Uso chuckles it off even as he crumbles to his knees! Controlling the wrist, they exchange elbows in the center of the ring, trading lariats, neither man relents, the Ring General sends him into the ropes with a boot, and Jey breaks free with a lariat that drops the champion!
Gojira Clutch countered into a German suplex, both competitors take a moment to recover, Uso rushes into the dropkick but escapes the Tenryu Powerbomb and lands his own release powerbomb! A superkick sends the champion to his knees, followed by another superkick, a spear, and Jey climbs to the top for a diving splash!
Jey Uso claims victory by submission with the Gojira Clutch, emerging as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Following the match, “Big” Jim Uso enters the ring, and the Usos celebrate together joyfully, both in the ring and among the crowd.
Rick Rubin, Criss Angel, and a football player with a peculiar intestinal issue (it indicates he has a tight end?) are spotted in the audience.
