WWE WRESTLEMANIA 41 LIVE BLOG & MATCH REPORT

Higher! Higher! Embrace the flames! She suffers at the stake like a sorceress, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this wrestling spectacle for you, folks.

Typically, I don’t liveblog the highs and lows of the preshow, but they broadcast a vignette for a AAA/NXT Worlds Collide event in June and then announced that WWE acquired AAA *and* used it to segue into Rey Mysterio stating that he’s not cleared to compete and will be substituted by Rey Fenix in his bout against El Grande Americano tonight, so there you have it.

Later, there’s news regarding Bayley mysteriously getting hurt backstage, apparently at the hands of definitely not Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, with Adam Pearce informing both of them that escaping a title match tomorrow night won’t be that simple.

The main event initiates with the typical montage of talent entering the arena.

A video follows, narrated by Triple H, concerning heroes, villains, and epic tales.

Triple H stands in the ring, microphone in hand.

He states it’s his privilege to welcome us to Las Vegas, where for the very first time ever, right here, right now (is Van Halen rocking out in America?), everyone present is being seen LIVE worldwide. He then invites us to WrestleMania as fireworks explode.

GUNTHER (c) vs. “Main Event” Jey Uso (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

Circling, moving slowly, absorbing the ambiance, collar and elbow into the corner, GUNTHER throws a right hand but Uso counters with a HUGE right that topples the Ring General onto his backside and forces him to flee outside! Back in the ring, exchanging blows, Jey comes out on top of the trade and GUNTHER retreats again to the floor for a momentary respite.

Back inside, another exchange occurs, and the Ring General chops Uso clean off the top and to the outside, striking a pose as referee Shaun Bennett counts. Jey beats the count just in time, and GUNTHER takes his time, methodically walking and chopping him into the corner, with each chop crumbling him slightly more… BUT USO BURSTS FORWARD WITH A SPEAR FOR TWO!

Right hands in the corner press GUNTHER to defend himself. Yet when the Ring General strikes one chop, it’s a true chop-a-doodle-doo delight! Uso rises back up and seizes control once again, climbing up top as GUNTHER ascends to meet him, a superplex sends Uso flying and the huge shotgun dropkick follows! Tenryu Powerbomb… JEY USO REFUSES TO STAY DOWN!

Another spear, Jey climbs back up, a diving splash, deep hook of the leg… GUNTHER KICKS OUT! Out and back in, the Ring General delivers a diving splash of his own, only two, and he locks in the Gojira Clutch! Jey endures, using his knees in the corner to ram hard, one chop sends Uso flying out to the apron!

Back inside, back on his feet, Jey signals for more, GUNTHER lands another chop and Uso chuckles it off even as he falls to his knees! Wrist control, exchanging elbows in the center of the ring, trading lariats as neither competitor yields any ground. The Ring General forces him into the ropes with a boot, and Jey erupts with a lariat that topples the champion!

Gojira Clutch countered into a German suplex as both men take a moment to recover. Uso charges into the dropkick but escapes the Tenryu Powerbomb and delivers a release powerbomb of his own! A superkick drops the champion to his knees, followed by another superkick, a spear, and Jey ascends, hitting the diving splash!

Once more up top, another splash, once again up top, a Shadows Over Hell splash to the back! Jey places him in his own Gojira Clutch… IS IT OVER?!

Jey Uso wins by submission with the Gojira Clutch, becoming your new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

After the match, “Big” Jim Uso enters the ring and the Usos share a lengthy celebration together, both in the ring and through the crowd.

Rick Rubin, Criss Angel, and a football player with some form of bowel obstruction (it states he’s a tight end?) are spotted in the audience.

New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) vs. War Raiders (Erik & Ivar) (c) (WWE World Tag Team Championship)

Erik and Kingston kick things off, with Woods attempting to assist his friend as Erik simply hurls Kofi into him! Tag to Ivar, and Erik slams him off the apron and into the New Day on the outside! Warbeard follows up with a freight train crossbody to both against the ring skirts, back inside, executing a tossing slam / diving splash combo but Xavier kicks out!

New Day gets Erik trapped on the apron, Shadows Over Hell style senton, cover for two! Kingston delivers punches to the viking’s wounded neck, followed by stomps, a Fameasser for two, putting him on the apron for a knee, tagging in Woods. A double stomp off the top, cover for two, X shows off with a little strut as Erik valiantly trades chops with him!

Escape, tag to Ivar, running hot, landing a big cartwheel lariat. Underhooks, Kingston slips away and delivers a crescent kick! Double whip, Warbeard counters with a handspring double back elbow! Xavier interrupts him with a big lariat, tagging to Kofi, who clubs away at the big man. Kingston positions him, but Erik arrives and takes Woods out of midair!

Kofi dispatches Erik with a tijeras and Trouble in Paradise, out to the apron and up top, back and over, roll through, Ivar takes him out with a reverse roundhouse kick! A giant moonsault from the big man, while Xavier counters with Limit Breaker! Erik catches him with a knee to the spine, then a running knee to the face, Ivar rushes in, launching Xavier, but Kofi intervenes!

Back and forth, Kofi trips Ivar, executing a double stomp, Woods with a lateral press while Kingston holds the big viking down.

New Day triumphs by pinfall with a lateral press from Xavier Woods on Ivar, aided by Kofi Kingston, to become your new WWE World Tag Team Champions.
